Ohio man held on $1 million bond in wife’s shooting death Eileen McClory, Kent Record-Courier, GateHouse Media Ohio Sunday Jan 6, 2019 at 11:31 AM
RAVENNA — An Ohio man accused of killing his wife, the mother of his two children, is in jail on a $1 million bond.
Erik Cunningham, 31, has been charged with one count of murder. He was arrested Thursday after Lacie Cunningham’s body was found in the garage at their Brimfield Township home. She died from an apparent gunshot wound, according to Brimfield police.
He was arraigned via video Friday in Portage County Municipal Court in Ravenna and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 11.
The Cunninghams were married in 2013, according to Portage County court records, and moved into their home in the quiet Butternut Ridge development off of Sandy Lake Road in 2018, according to court and Portage County Auditor’s records. They lived in Ravenna prior to that. Join the conversation at Facebook.com/columbusdispatch and connect with us on Twitter @DispatchAlerts
The couple has a 7-year-old son and a 3-year old son, both of whom are staying with other family members, according to Brimfield Police Chief Roy E. Mosley III. He said the boys were not home at the time of their mother’s death.
According to Brimfield police, the department received a call from the Portage County Sheriff’s Office at about 8:40 p.m. Thursday asking officers to check on the welfare of Lacie Cunningham. They said Erik Cunningham had gone to the sheriff’s office on Thursday and made statements to staff that caused concern for her welfare.
Mosley said some evidence was recovered at the scene that was firearms-related, but did not give specifics.
Police said no one else was in the Cunningham’s residence when the body was discovered.
Mosley said police had been to the home one time in the past year, but would not say why and would not release a dispatch call log for the address.
According to her Facebook page, Lacie Cunningham is a Rootstown High School graduate and stay-at-home mother.
Erik Cunningham works for Competitive Interiors, a Ravenna company, where he’s listed as an estimator/project manager on the company’s website. Competitive Interiors is owned by Paul and Nancy Cunningham, identified as Erik Cunningham’s parents in a 2015 birth announcement in the Record-Courier for the Cunninghams’ 3-year-old son.
According to the Competitive Interiors website, Erik Cunningham began as a helper in a lumber yard in 2005. He joined Competitive Interiors in 2007 as a carpenter helper, and became a project manager in 2010. He was promoted again to his current position as estimator in 2012.
Erik Cunningham has no criminal record, with the exception of a disorderly conduct charge in 2010 for which he paid a fine.
