Hawkins man faces charges in alleged attack with jug of detergent Jeff Bobo • Jan 4, 2019 at 3:30 PM [email protected]
ROGERSVILLE — A Hawkins County man who allegedly struck his girlfriend in the head with a laundry detergent jug when she refused to hand over her food stamps was arrested Wednesday on felony assault and aggravated burglary charges after a week on the run.
Aaron Anthony Lee, 26, was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. at a mobile home park on Prices Grove Road near Rogersville on several charges stemming from incidents that occurred on Nov. 28, Dec. 16, Dec. 17 and Dec. 26.
Lee’s girlfriend, Samantha Testerman, 21, told Rogersville Police Department Officer Chris Funk that on Dec. 17 Lee entered her apartment without permission and asked for her food stamp card.
When she refused to comply, Lee allegedly began gathering food from the apartment.
“He got mad and threw a bottle of liquid laundry detergent across the dining room and struck her in the right side of the face, causing a bruise,” Funk stated in his report. “He then went over and grabbed her by the throat and choked her to the point she felt she was going to pass out.”
Funk noted that he obtained identical statements about the alleged attack from Testerman and two other witnesses who were in the apartment.
Testerman previously filed a complaint stating that on Nov. 28 Lee sliced the tire on her vehicle so she couldn’t go anywhere and also “pulled my hair and slung me around.”
On Dec. 16, Lee was at Testerman’s home at the Cherokee Square Apartments in Rogersville when he allegedly shoved her into a woodpile and threw her down on the pavement.
Lee, 859 Beech Grove Road, Rogersville, had been banned from Cherokee Square Apartments by the management since September, but on the morning of Dec. 26, the property manager spotted Lee in a vehicle in front of her office.
RPD Officer Chris Price responded to the trespassing complaint and located Testerman preparing to leave.
Testerman eventually admitted that Lee was in her apartment, and while officers were attempting to make contact with him, Lee was spotted running from the rear of the building toward a nearby patch of woods.
Lee refused commands to stop and eluded arrest, but Testerman was charged with accessory after the fact to criminal trespassing.
She was released from jail Dec. 26 on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Sessions Court on Jan. 9.
Lee was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated burglary, criminal trespassing, evading arrest by foot, assault and vandalism.
At the time of his Wednesday arrest, Lee was free on $5,000 bond stemming from a Dec. 3 indictment by a Hawkins County grand jury on charges including possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, violation of the light law, no insurance and driving on a revoked license.
His trial date on those charges is June 6 in Hawkins County Criminal Court.
Lee was ordered held in the Hawkins County Jail without bond pending an appearance in Sessions Court on Jan. 9. Recommended for You
