SUNDAY, DEC. 30
9:34 p.m. – A caller reported a man had walked to a Meckling business and the man was very cold and was asking for a ride. A deputy responded and due to the weather conditions, drove the man to Vermillion.
MONDAY, DEC. 31
1:18 a.m. – A deputy encountered a family sleeping in a vehicle in Irene. He learned the family was fine and needed no assistance. They had simply stopped for safety since the driver had become sleepy.
4:30 a.m. – A deputy responded to the jail to assist jail staff and Vermillion Police Officers with an uncooperative inmate who was refusing to comply with a court ordered blood draw. The inmate was restrained so the officer could safely serve the search warrant and obtain the evidence.
9:27 a.m. – A deputy responded to mediate a family dispute at a rural residence. The situation had calmed down by the time of the deputy’s arrival.
10:34 a.m. – An inmate was transported to a medical clinic for an appointment and then was returned to the jail.
12:43 p.m. – A deputy investigated a report of a theft from a Wakonda residence.
6:12 p.m. – A deputy responded to a report of a pedestrian on University Road who the caller was concerned about. Upon the deputy’s arrival, the pedestrian was no longer in the area.
9:45 p.m. – A caller reported a box causing a traffic hazard on Highway 19 north of Vermilion. A deputy responded and removed the box.
TUESDAY, JAN. 1
8:52 a.m. – A deputy assisted the LeMars, Iowa police by helping them make contact with a Clay County resident who was the subject of an investigation there.
9:59 a.m. – A deputy investigated a report from a rural resident that her husband had entered her property without permission. Charges are under consideration by the State’s Attorney’s office.
12:43 p.m. – A deputy responded to assist a Yankton County Deputy at the scene of a suicide in Yankton County.
WEDNESDAY, JAN. 2
8:41 a.m. – A deputy responded to a report of a vehicle left stuck in the middle of a minimum maintenance rural road.
11:11 a.m. – A patient was transported from the hospital in Vermillion to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.
11:14 a.m. – A juvenile was transported from a facility in Sioux Falls to the Clay County Courthouse to attend a hearing.
4:50 p.m. – A juvenile was transported to the Human Services Center in Yankton for an involuntary mental health committal.
9:08 p.m. – A caller reported a neighbor’s security light was flashing on and off. A deputy responded and found that the light was malfunctioning. The deputy assisted the property owner with shutting off the light and advised him to report the problem to an electrician.
THURSDAY, JAN. 3
7:59 a.m. – A caller reported an injured deer along Highway 19 south of Vermillion. A deputy responded and found the deer to be badly injured. The deer was euthanized.
10:00 a.m. – An inmate was transported from the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls to the Clay County Jail to be held for a court appearance.
11:15 a.m. – An inmate was transported to a Sioux Falls hospital for a mental health evaluation. The inmate was then returned to the Jail.
3:22 p.m. – A deputy investigated a report of an inmate attempting to bring tobacco into the jail when he turned himself in for a sentence.
3:23 p.m. – An inmate was transported from the jail to the State Penitentiary in Sioux Falls after being brought to Clay County for a court appearance.
4:57 p.m. – An inmate was transported from the Brookings County Jail to the Clay County Jail and another was transported from the Brookings County Jail to the Union County Jail after they violated probation there.
FRIDAY, JAN. 4
11:36 a.m. – A wanted person was arrested in Wakonda and was transported to the Jail.
SATURDAY, JAN. 5
12:24 a.m. – A deputy observed a vehicle parked with an open door in Irene. Contact was made with the owner who verified that there had not been any apparent theft from the vehicle.
10:29 a.m. – A caller reported to a deputy that she was threatened by dogs that were being walked by a man while she was running on a rural road north of Vermillion.
